It's April 20th, 2017. I get an email from my attorney requesting a meeting. The prosecution wants to offer me a deal. Probation. The chance to ensure that I stay home with my kids, and the fact that I can avoid another $10-15 thousand in lawyer fee's in exchange for representation at trial? An offer so tempting, I could not refuse. Regardless of how innocent I felt, I just couldn't pass. But with my offer came my husband's offer: Ten years in prison. I had been upset with my husband while we were separated. For so many reasons, I was just angry. But ten years in prison, without our children? That hurt more than anything. I hurt for my kids and I hurt for my husband. He had never been to prison and for this sentence to be so long. The truth is that he had done some bad things that were very wrong and very illegal. But He was a great dad. Always was a great father.
May 22nd 2017 we woke up, got the kids ready for school and daycare and dropped them off. This was the last time my children would see their father as a free man for a very long time. I wept so hard I could barely contain myself. As he kissed and hugged our daughter goodbye, she had no idea exactly what that meant. He hugged our son tight and told him he loved him and to take care of us. We went to court so that my husband could be sentenced and taken to prison that day. Very emotional day. The judge agreed with the recommendation of 10 years and he was whisked away. It was all so surreal. One day we were a family. The next day he was gone. It’s been 7 months and I am still adjusting to being a single parent.
October 19th 2017 came it was my day to be sentenced. The judge was not so friendly with me this day. I was issued a $10,000 fine (maximum fine for the offense Felony 3 Obstructing justice), 4 years probation and 2 weeks in the county jail to be spent this Christmas and New Year. I was lucky as my probation officer says. It could have been a lot worse. The irony of me being able to overcome all that was happening and save $10,000 only to be hit with a $10,000 fine was aclhamy. It made me realie that it’s only Money. It also proved that I can do anything I put my mind to. My life is not based upon material wealth. But to prove to myself that I can overcome was a lifelong lesson that I had to learn in order to grow. I realized that life is about growth and evolution. We are here for our very own purpose each and every one of us.
We all have one thing in common, the power within us that allowed me to save $10,000 in 10 months. The power of the mind. I have set New Money goals for myself ($30,000) and fully intend to reach them. In the meantime I can say that have been extremely blessed in every aspect of my life! The marathon starts now, my life starts now. Raising my kids to be all that they can be is my #1 priority in my life. And that is a goal I will reach as well. Never give up on yourself, never doubt yourself and believe that you have super powers to become all that you could ever wish to become.
Thank you for listening to my story. I know it was long LOL.
